The best way to let your friend know that you want them to get well
Your friend is sick and is bed ridden in the hospital. They don’t wish to be sick. they don’t want to be away from their daily life. They don’t want to be in bed all day. What they do want is to be normal, healthy and in good spirits, doing their daily tasks and visiting with their friends and family. They simply want to get well.
So what can you do for your friend who is laid up and cannot enjoy life like the rest of the world? What can you do to let them know that you want them to get well? What you can do for them while they are sick is the same thing you do for them when they are not sick. You be their friend. What your friend really wants is to feel normal again even when they are sick. You can help by spending time with him or her and treating them like you normally do. Talk to them about their favorite television program or their favorite sport. Talk to them about a hobby you have together or the next get-together with your normal group. They want to get back to the life they had before their illness, so help them feel as though they are already there.
If you cannot be there as much in person for your loved one due to your own busy life or other time constraints, you can do the next best thing and send them your thoughts on a card or note. Your friend will cherish anything you send to help them on their journey to get well. Getting a note from you is going to perk them up and put them in good spirits which is an essential part of healing faster. When you write your note or send good thoughts in a card remember to personalize it with something that the recipient will recognize as coming from you. For example you may wish to let them know that your group misses their company when you get together and that it is not the same without them. Or you may simply send them get well wishes and then let them know what transpired during your get together. That way they can still feel included and a part of what is going on outside their temporary place of sickness.
When your friend is out of commission they feel down and want that feeling to go away. One of the best ways to jolt them out of their funk is to give them a funny gift or funny note to help them laugh. Laughter can help any pain they may be feeling to be lessened and will trigger good endorphins throughout their body. Besides all of this, putting them in a laughing mood can trigger good responses in their own natural body setting their immune system higher so it can fight the illness or disease quickly and get them on their way to getting well.
Everyone is working towards the goal of getting your friend on their way to better health. Not only do they wish to get well themselves, but the hospital and doctor both work hard to get them in better health. And last but certainly not least all of their friends and family want to have a normal illness free person that they love back in their normal routine. By being there for your friend you can help them get well and be back to themselves in no time!
